What to Expect

Here's what happens during your visit, so you can come prepared and feel at ease.

During your balloon sinuplasty, a small catheter with a deflated balloon is gently guided into the blocked sinus passage under endoscopic visualization. The balloon is then inflated to remodel and widen the sinus opening, restoring natural drainage pathways. The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes depending on the number of sinuses treated. Most patients experience mild congestion and minor bloody drainage for a few days post-procedure. You will receive saline irrigation instructions and may be prescribed a short course of antibiotics and nasal steroid spray. A follow-up appointment is scheduled at 2-4 weeks to assess healing.

Balloon sinus dilation may be right for you if you have been diagnosed with chronic sinusitis that has not improved with antibiotics, nasal steroid sprays, and saline irrigation. If you have had multiple sinus infections per year or if a CT scan shows blocked sinus openings, our sinus surgery specialists in Massachusetts can evaluate whether balloon sinuplasty is an appropriate option for your condition.
